Ask three Delhi tailors what a blouse costs and you can get three answers that differ by a factor of two or more. That is not always a sign that someone is overcharging. Stitching is priced on the garment, the fabric, the detailing, the shop and the deadline, and a single "rate" hides all of that. This guide gives you indicative ranges for the common garments, explains what moves a price, and shows how to get a quote you can compare line by line.

Each row links to a page for that service, where shops that have published their own rate cards show their actual prices. As more shops publish, those pages take over from these indicative ranges.
What the ranges mean, and what they do not
- They are stitching charges. That means labour, not fabric. Fabric, lining, padding, buttons and embroidery are usually separate unless the tailor supplies them.
- They are indicative, not quotes. They come from our own market research and they are wide on purpose, because real prices are. Use a range to spot a quote that is unusually low or high, not to negotiate to a number.
- They describe a typical job. A plain, unlined garment in an easy fabric sits at the bottom. A heavily detailed one in a difficult fabric sits at the top, or above it.
Why two quotes for the same garment differ
- Who is sewing it. A neighbourhood market tailor, a ladies' boutique and a bespoke house have different overheads and different people cutting. Shops in premium markets and bespoke houses tend to quote more than neighbourhood tailors, which says nothing about quality in either direction.
- How it is built. A lined jacket costs more than an unlined one, and a canvassed jacket, which has an internal structure sewn in by hand, takes far more labour than a fused one. Piping, princess seams and curved panels all add time.
- Handwork. Zari, zardozi and embroidery are often priced separately from stitching and done by specialists. Ask whether a quote includes the work or only the garment.
- The fabric. Silk, chiffon, net and velvet are slower to cut and sew and less forgiving of a mistake. Some tailors price for that risk.
- Fittings and alterations. A quote with two trials and free adjustments is not the same product as one with none.
- The deadline. A rush order, or an order in the busy wedding months, costs more or simply cannot be taken.
What a good quote includes
Before you agree a price, make sure you know these, and get them in writing or on WhatsApp with a photo of the garment you want:
- The garment and the style, with a reference photo so there is no argument later about neckline, sleeve or length.
- Whose fabric it is, and how many metres the tailor says the garment needs.
- What is included: lining, padding, buttons, hooks, piping and any handwork.
- How many trial fittings are included, and what adjustments are free.
- The delivery date, written down.
- The advance and the balance, and when the balance is due.
How to get quotes you can compare
- Decide the garment and style first, and save two or three reference photos.
- Take your measurements so you can describe the fit and check what you are told.
- Choose your fabric, or at least its type and width, before asking for prices.
- Ask three tailors the same questions from the list above, and compare line by line rather than comparing totals.
- Visit your shortlist and ask to see finished work on the same garment. Our guide to choosing a tailor in Delhi covers what to look for.
When you will pay more, and when to start earlier
The winter wedding season, roughly November through February, is when tailors are busiest, and busy shops either charge more or stop taking new work. Ordering earlier than you think you need to is the cheapest way to avoid a rush premium. Our wedding outfit timeline works backwards from the event date.
Want a specific shop's prices?
Shops that publish a rate card on Groovyn show their own prices on their listing, marked as coming from the shop. For shops that have not, we show an indicative range and say so, and the two are never presented as if they were the same. If you run a shop, publishing your rates is free: claim your listing.

How much does it cost to stitch a blouse in Delhi?
The table above gives an indicative range for blouse stitching, and the real figure depends on lining, padding, neck and sleeve design, and any embroidery or piping. Ask for a price for your exact style rather than a general rate, and check whether lining and hooks are included.
Is the stitching charge the total cost?
No. Stitching charges cover labour. Fabric, lining, buttons, padding and embroidery are usually separate unless the tailor supplies them, so ask what a quote includes.
Do Delhi tailors charge more in wedding season?
Many do, or they simply run out of slots. The busiest months are roughly November to February, so order earlier than you think you need to and get the delivery date in writing.
Should I pay in advance?
An advance is common, especially when the tailor buys lining or trims. Keep it modest, get a receipt that records the garment, the fabric, the advance and the delivery date, and pay the balance on collection after a satisfactory trial.
Why are these ranges different from what a tailor quoted me?
They are indicative benchmarks from our own market research, not quotes, and they span a wide range because real prices do. A quote for a specific garment, in a specific fabric, from a specific shop is always more reliable than a range. Use the range to spot a quote that is unusually low or high.
